... Island is the World s Largest Sand Island and is World Heritage Listed. It is located off the North east Coast of Australia and is most easily accessed from the beach towns of Hervey Bay (where the is an airport with flights to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane) or Rainbow Beach. I took a 3 day, 2 night self drive 4x4 group tour organised by Palace Backpackers in Hervey Bay. There were 10 people in my group, and after a lot of safety videos, instruction about how to drive the van and checking everyone s driving licenses (you had to be over 21 with a full driving license) we were off!
