Advantages: everything you could possibly imagine at your feet
Disadvantages: everything you could possibly imagine at your feet - there are some things that are truely WRONG!
I am a young male. I went to Thailand for what was meant to be around 2 weeks. I ended up staying for 2 months. Thailand is the only place on this plant I have been to that I can say with everything in my heart that it is paradise and a place that unfortunately is becoming westernized.
The second I stepped off the plane in Bangkok airport I was surrounded by this immense feeling of humidity which felt like it consumed me slowly. Looking up I saw a bright blue sky with a couple of whisky clouds in the sky. It was 11:30am and after the 14hours to get here I was already feeling excited and filled with adrenaline.
'TUK TUK' 'TUK TUK' 'TAXI CAB' 'TAXI CAB' is screamed at you from every direction you look at, the locals are all trying to give you a 'good price' for a life to anywhere in the City - Primarily the KO San Road where almost all backpackers start off their Adventures. It coats around 500Bhat for the 30 minute drive which is around £10 but you really can bargain and get it down!
You have to understand that although you may be extremely tired sweaty and smelly from your plane journey, you can't actually relax until you're inside your room at you hostel as you will have the locals trying to literally sell you everything you could imagine. Don't worry though they're all very harmless and very sweet. What ever you do don't get annoyed as it's only the start and you won't stop getting hustled until you are back in your home country!
It is also very important to remember that what you earn in a day is often what they earn in a month so be understanding and considerate towards them.
Right so any way back to the KO San Road! It is lined with hotels as hostels from £1 a night to £70 depending on what you want you can in the more expensive ones get anything - I mean literally everything and anything!
I actually started in an air-con cause I couldn't handle the heat it coast around 500Bhat again so sharing with a friend it is not too bad - £10 then we were hungry so stepped out onto the street and there was a little street stool with some plastic chairs and tables with some Westerners seating down eating so decided to eat there. Green Curry - 30Bhat - that's about 55pence for a huge plate of arguably the tastiest meal I've ever had!
And it only really got cheaper from then on.
To be honest I could go on forever about Bangkok but mainly I can say it is the most insane City I've ever been to and literally had the most bizarre and entertaining nights of my life. It is a place to visit again and again !
Summary: an amazing city and one that everyone should see!
