Newest Review: ... were helpful in booking our boat trip out for the next morning. The site also offered great views across the bay and was in good proximity for the town itself. Any visit to Russell requires a boat trip out to discover some of the many gorgeous islands making up the area. There is a boating package for everyone with high speed jetboats powering you out to the Hole in the Rock and back within 2 hours, right to the other extreme of leisurely overnight diving adventures and dolphin swimming packages. On my visit to New Zealand, the Bay of Islands was my first destination and I had heard great things about the beauty of the area and the views. It is because of this that the area has become one of NZ's top tourist attractions although during my visit to the small town of Russell, the area was both quiet and serene with no bustling crowds in sight. I flew in to Auckland and the drive to Russell takes around four hours and takes in a small car ferry unless you're prepared to drive even longer around the twisting coastline.
