Biarritz (France) ... the most famous part of the Pays Basque. Biarritz has a lot more than beautiful buildings to offer today. It's a vibrant cosmopolitan town with magnificent beaches, golf courses and numerous sporting facilities, not forgetting the surf.

The weather is interchangable, the fact that it is on the Alantic coast makes it alot cooler than say St Tropez but still if you go at the right time of year it is just perfect with an average temperature of 27 degrees. When I was there this summer we had many days in the high ... more

Premium Review Biarritz (France): Beam Me To Biarritz (391 words)

I just had to write about Biarritz, as I feel it is a hidden little gem located on the south west Alantic coast of France about 30 minutes from the border with Spain. The closeness to Spain means you get all different nationalities and plenty of Parisiens flocking south for the summer. It is even a fond favourite with the royals- Queen Victoria. Biarritz offers the impressive Hotel du Palais, which was used for royal visitors and is way to far out of my price range. It also offers a decent number of hotels and appartments along the sea front at reasonable prices. The weather is interchangable, the fact that it is on the Alantic coast makes it alot ...  Read the complete review

We went to Biarritz for a day trip while we were staying in Vieux Boucau, admittedly it was last year and the weather was pretty awful so we probably didn't see the best of Biarritz. I can't say that it was spectacular from what I saw, I wish I'd known about this site because I may have tried to visit some of the places on the reviews which looked quite good. We went out on the rock which has a monument (you can't miss it!) that was interesting although a storm was brewing out at sea and we nearly got blown off!! The buildings although looking grand, looked a bit old fashioned and dated some even a little shabby, but again that could've been the ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Biarritz (France): "Beer? Ritz?" "No, dear, Biarritz!" (1512 words)

Last year we had a fab fortnight in France, spending three nights in Bordeaux - which I've already reviewed - and a week in a gorgeous house with a pool near Hossegor, a surfing town about an hour away from Biarritz. We finished off the tour with a few nights on the Ile D'Oleron, which will probably be reviewed shortly no doubt. And, I have to say that a lovely time was had by the whole party, well perhaps not our friends from Edinburgh who had an adopted daughter for the hotels - we have an imbalance of girls you see, they have one, we have three. So, we averaged them out. Such generous friends! Anyway, I'm waffling. On one of the days whilst ...  Read the complete review

Well Biarritz is located in the south west of France and is very close to the border with Spain on the Atlantic coast. This geographical context is key in understanding what you are getting with Biarritz. Its proximity to Spain meant that it was used by a wide range of European Royalty to from Empress Eugene to that of Queen Victoria. It is also for this reason that the town is more of an affluent community with the impressive Hotel du Palais which was used for such royalty and is now one of the finest hotels in France, however I was unable to afford it and had to settle for alternative accommodation, nonetheless its worth a look in due to its grandeur. I was fortunate ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Biarritz (France): Biarritz, a posh surfing spot in South West France (548 words)

Biarritz is a very classy town located in the French Basque country (South West of France) near Bayonne (see my other review on Bayonne) and Anglet. Biarritz in Basque means "two rocks". You will easily notice those 2 huge rocks in the sea. A lighthouse ensures boats do not come too near the rocks. Biarritz is a posh area with gorgeous listed buildings boarding the Atlantic Ocean. No matter what the weather, Biarritz is one of those places which will always look amazing. It has a great Casino (you must wear smart dress as in most casinos) and 6 stunning beaches. La Grande Plage is the biggest and most famous one. If you prefer a ...  Read the complete review
