Bintan is an Indonesian island just an hours ferry ride away from Singapore. It is a small Indonesian island which predominantely caters for visitors from Singapore who are looking for a relaxing beach getaway. Bintan doesn't fail to deliver with its clean beautiful beaches and the South China Sea is warm and calm, at times it was like walking into a warm bath - heaven. The people couldn't be more hospitable and really go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and welcome without being in your face. The food is good although not as much choice as other islands we have visited however I would recommend the satay which is a local speciality and also another dish that comes with rice, satay and weridly a fried egg on top - sounds strange but really is gorgeous. One thing to watch out for are the large lizards - well over 30cm long that waddle around the island - you have been warned!

Summary: A beautuful getaway from the city hustle and bustle and heat of Singapore
