Advantages: Plenty of beaches, quaint little town, lively nightlife, nice restaurants, good surf

Disadvantages: Prone to flash youngsters flaunting their cash,

Buzios is a peninsula north of Rio de Janeiro. Apparently, long before I was born, Brigitte Bardot made the place famous and it's chic image has lasted from the 1960s to today.
Although it's a relatively small town, it is very tourist orientated and is quite affluent with a host of designer shops lining the main strip. It is a trendy place to be seen in terms of nightlife and is common with the young and old.
There are lots of places to eat, both small and large, with seafood naturally being a speciality!
It has many beaches, so whether you want a small hideaway for you and your partner, or a large beach with wild waves to satisfy your watersport desires, chances are it's available for you.
It is popular with surfers due to the decent sized waves you can get, and there is also a beach which is common with windsurfers as well.
Naturally, some beaches are busier than others, but if you are comfortable with a little more travelling, you can get quieter and better beaches further down the coast.

The pousadas (small inn-style hotels) are a little more expensive than the average due to how in demand the place can be, particularly from October through til March, but in fairness are kept very well and in comparison with British or European prices, is still good value.

A beautiful, quaint little town to visit for a few days, especially with a partner, but only if you don't mind putting up with the odd yuppie tourist and slightly overpriced services.

Summary: This beautiful town north of Rio is definitely worth a visit to chill out or be active
