Advantages: great in high season, plenty of bars, good for a rest

Disadvantages: miles from palma , no clubs

calas de mallorca is a very small tourist resort situated around 65km from palma (transfers from the airport take around 1 1/2 hours) and 15 km from manacor & felanitx. the season usually starts around beginning of may & finishes around the end of october.
for a small town (more like a village in winter, with only 70ish residents) it has around 11 hotels: canarios park, club eurocalas, chihuahuas, mastines, balmoral, maria eugenia, calas park, america, samoa, malaga1 (now selling off apartments at around 48-52,000 euros& not a hotel anymore!), topaz and cala domingos.
by way of entertainment, there are plenty of bars to choose from. the most popular (and expensive) with the british is d'alfil (mainly because it´s on the main drag & the first that people see!) certainly not the best! then there is las guitarras, run by a family (katy-mother, jordi & miguel brothers, a bit like the adams family but very well priced.) maysi, also family run, eric & rosana, the young couple & her mother & father and ruben ,who introduced me to my husband!) paella (pronounced similar to pa'eya) & jug of sangria around 21 euros for 2 people. city bar, run by marisa, bar atena, very good for tapas run by paco and many more including tifany´s, o´reillys macarena, grill'o, granada, chaplin's etc.
for very cheap clothes there's xaloc (pronounced chaloc) casa pila (also a british restaurant behind clothes shop)
as far as transport goes, the buses (in summer) are not bad, but better to hire a car, enrique/the bon bon shop, in front of hotel samoa is probably the best.
if you feel like the very quiet life is for you, then they are selling newly built properties at around 250,000 euros.
in general for a couple of weeks it's great, but to live , unless you like ghost towns don't bother! i've lived there for five years & have just moved to the mainland. i should know!!!

It is always interesting to here a perspective from someone who has lived in a place, rather than a tourist. After all, you should really know the best places to eat, drink and shop! :-)
