A sealed road provides access to the area from the south via the Daintree River ferry. North from Cape Tribulation Beach House a four-wheel drive road - unsealed - continues to the Bloomfield River, Wujal Wujal and Cooktown and is often closed during the wet season (Feb-Apr).

Cape Tribulation is a rainforested area north of Cairns and accessible only by car ferry across the Daintree River from the South. The area gained its name from Captain Cook who so called it because of the weather and problems he experienced on his passing of the coast here in 1770 when he ran aground. We drove north into the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation last May (2008) as part of a road trip up the East coast. Driving north from Cairns it takes about an hour and a half to get to the river crossing and from that moment on you are aware of the amazing surroundings and the way nature certainly still rules this corner of the planet. Cape Tribulation is a small town in Queensland, Australia within the Daintree National Park. It is reached by sealed road from the Daintree River ferry, and is as far north as you can drive in a normal car. The town is only accessible via the ferry, which operates 6am-midnight every day except Christmas Day and Good Friday. However the road north from the crossing can be closed if there has been heavy rain. Because of its isolation it is somewhat off the beaten track for tourists, although very popular with younger backpackers.
