... Best Beach in the World for the Avid Plane Spotter and also fans of Star Wars and Yoda... St Philipsburg, is a 10 minute drive from Juliana Airport and has a long sandy beach with palm trees...the Main high street fills with people when a cruise ship comes in for the day but the beach stays pretty much quiet. This is home to one of the creators of Yoda, the shop is on this high street where you can go in and have a chat to the friendly couple. You can also stay at one of the rent out apartments far cheaper than any hotel on the island. Now for plane spotters... You only went if you had to. I only went to make sure she was alright. Nothing could be further from the truth! We touched down at the airport at Ciego de Avila in Cuba after a fairly routine 10 hour flight from Gatwick. ... went to Playa Dorada about 5years ago now and I appreciate it will have changed with the times. We went just after there had been a few hurricanes over the area and it was a bit torn up and the sea was very wild for the first few days. The place itself was gorgeous, there are a selection of Hotels on the resort and it is surrounded by a golf course. There is also a mall and some extra restaurants spaced around and a few Casinos (which offer free cigarettes). We stayed in what was Jack Tar Village, not sure if it is there anymore.
