Advantages: everything minus the small flume
Disadvantages: the small flume
I have been going to center parcs in sherwood every year for every year of my life (this may day weekend will be my 16th time) so chances are you may think that this will be quite biased but no matter what you think i can remember most of my trips since i was about 8 and thats 7 trips and 7 years and in my opinion the site has progressed slowly but immensely since then. i have always personally been in a comfort villa which used to have very dull, drab and painfully uncomfortable living conditions. however in recent years renovations have included an upgraded kitchens which has over average furnishings including microwave with clock and radio/cd player etc. i have always been in a three bedroom villa, one room having a double bed, one two singles positioned rather closely together and one with a cabin bed (bunk bed) these beds are of reasonable comfort, always have been, those who complain about things like this are normally over fussy and i am used to more comfortable beds in hotels ive been to in other countries but the mattresses arent exactly made of wood at all, in fact they are pretty much mediocre, nothing impressive, nothing negative. the pillows aren't terrible either theyre pretty much the same as the mattress and anybody moaning about that should have either seen the fact that they're paying for the bare minimum and taken the opportunity to bring their own comfortable pillow from home or looked at a holiday review like this and seen that the pillows there don't match up to their usual standards and taken the initiative to bring their own. i find myself doing it most years anyway.
Thats the villa out of the way. now for the site itself. in basic terms, It's HUGE! Theres a whole other world out there, i can actually guarantee that if you take a short bike ride round the corner from your villa you will find somethings interesting. A Nature Hide. Some Tennis Courts. A village Square. Miniature Golf. Kids Playgrounds. or even the little things that most people dont pay attention too like the time capsule that was buried opposite the village square sometime a few years ago and is planned to be opened in 20-50 years or so, its the little things that count here, you get to a point where your so relaxed that you see stuff like this and its just interesting. but with such great facilities like the ones above and the many others you cant go wrong. you've never got nothing to do. even a week break is too short, maybe not for the people who just want to sit back and relax, i would recommend the weekend breaks for these people as since i was in year 6 i have had exams literally a week after this small break and it works wonders.
Finally the restaurants and Dome (Subtropical Swimming Paradise) . Restaurants. Huckleberry's- Kids heaven for the play area, nice but expensive food e.g platter of ribs is about 6 quid, so not terribly expensive just a little bit on the pricey side. Crispins. provides the food inside and just outside of the Dome, for inside i would recommend for children the kids marshmallow sundae with butterscotch sauce (a classic) and for adults , the jam donuts , rather plain choice i agree but the jam donuts there are literally bursting with jam, i guarantee the jam will somehow find itself onto your chest. Those are my two favorite places to eat at CP anyway, although the sports bar does have friendly staff and nice light bites. The Dome is what makes my trip. For the people who have actually taken the time to read up to here this im sure you will agree is a part you have been waiting for. Rapids- signs of no head first and strong swimmers only are generally ignored and quite rightly, well actually if your not a strong swimmer dont go down head first, go down feet first, its just fun really, the only bit where its good to have some experience with swimming is the last bit, the pool you fall into at the end can actually sweep you off your feet. my age rating is 6+ for that one. Flumes- little flume is actually rather **** for anybody over 5 as you generally get stuck halfway down, this is actually the only negative thing i can find out of my whole trip. Big flume is great though! wave pool is fantastic as towards the shallow end the waves get tamer which is great for the millions of small children who hang around there. there is a really really good childrens pool for under 6's which came about a few years back. just stick em in there and they'll be occupied for at least an hour.
As a whole my trip is made by things like tradition and family, its my family, me , mum , dad and another family dads friend, his wife , his son , who is 3 years younger than me, would be less fun if he was a she as we just do boyish things in the main pool like rugby with a beach ball ( i would recommend that too =]) and if you were wondering about the customer services. godknows. ive never needed to complain =].
Summary: like being abroad just in england
