Advantages: Great Scenery, Peaceful
Disadvantages: Overpriced, rubbish service
Stayed at CP longleat Sep 08 - never ever again. Executive (ha ha) Apartment was extreemly dated, showed signs of wear and tear and stunk!!!
Every doorhandle/surface one touched (in the apartment and parkwide) was filthy and greasy. The whole place needed a good clean (but hold on, that would eat into profits!!!!)
Restaurants in main village were overpriced and food was average at best - cooked and served by disinterested and unmotivated staff (not their fault).
What is absolutly laughable that people still appear to consider this a get back to nature holiday - walking around a glass dome in timberland boots and carrying a ruck sack purchasing designer t-shirts and stuffing ice creams!!!
I saw one deluded twat actually carrying a hiking stick - to walk 150 yards along a paved walkway to the parc market!!!!
Far from being at one with nature the whole hypocritcal set-up is about parting guests with there hard-earned cash.
The one 'posh' resturant (meaning it has table cloths!) is only open twice a week and the prices are horrendous for what is decidedly mediocre food - still when you have been munching tasteless burgers and cold chips (the main staple of most of the restaurants) all week, a £22 pasta dish seems like food from the gods.
Opened in July 08' the new 'Dining-In' facility was, clean, well run and the food was very good. But you can bet that in a years time, once the profit hungry number crunchers have been on the case, that food/service sadly fall into line with the rest of the park eateries.
That is the prblem with CP - what started off as (and still could be) a great holiday idea has somewhere along the line just turned into a money grabbing venture. It always was expensive (and a lot of that expense can be easily justified) but when standards of cleanleness and service have to drop to provide a healthier bottom line then to my mind, its the beginning of the end.
If you would like a genuine outdoors holiday with beautiful countryside then I would suggest camping in France.
If you want middle class Butlins with trees and you have £500+ pound to throw away then CP is just right for yoou!!!
I suppose the clue is in the name Centre Parc - just take the second word and spell it backwards!!!
Summary: Great setting for a lousy holiday experience
