Advantages: A lot to do

Disadvantages: Very, very, very expensive

The former advertising of Center Parcs was really, really funny. Anyone who has seen the advert but not been, the "Don't Fence Me In" is a bit of false advertising.

Driving into the Sherwood Forest resort, you pass through some lovely scenery and if lucky will see the occasional squirrel leaping through the trees. Then, you come up to the security gate. Now if that is not fencing you in, then I don't know what does!

Inside there is a huge range of entertainment from cafés and restaurants to sporting activities like bowling and sailing and of course the famous swimming pool. I will have to start by saying that I can't comment on the swimming pool as I have negative buoyancy!!

The bars and restaurants are slightly over priced. I would say at a rough guess to add 10-15% on normal high-street prices for slightly below average fare. There is a good range of food available from burgers and chips to traditional French and Italian style restaurants. There is a grocery shop in the centre of the 'village' which again costs 10-15% more than your average supermarket for less well known names.

The sports facilities are very good but do come at a price. The bowling alley appears to be set in a dark jungle which is different. It is very hi-tech and everyone seems to enjoy it. For some sports, there are beginner classes laid on if you wish to learn the basics. There is also cycle hire and a couple of short marked walks if you want to get away from the hubbub.

Center Parcs is good for the kids. There is masses for them to do and they don't have to get stuck under your feet for the entire stay. I would advise to venture out and view some of the nearby villages like Edwinstowe and also Sherwood Forest where Robin Hood once roamed.

Beware, you will have to part with a fair wedge of cash. It is expensive but there is a lot to do in and around the area and you don't have to feel as i
f you have to stay within it's boundaries.

If you are planning to go, HAVE FUN!!!

These sort of breaks are not my cup of tea, but your summary seems balanced and for those with kids as you say, it's an idea. I have to say though, I think it's nicer to be somewhere "authentic" - a private cottage, or B&B, but that's because i can't stand these big, globalised chains.
