Advantages: Good for children

Disadvantages: Rotton customer service, Poor accomodation stock

We (myself, husband and 4 year old Rowan) visited Longleat for the second time recently. I'm sorry to say we were not happy. We've been to centre parcs several times in the last 2 years, but I'm not sure at the moment that we would go back.

Longleat is the oldest of the villages now, and the accomodation is very poor compared to the other villages. We book "Executive VIP" which sounds very swish, but isn't really. Executive gets you a better standard of accomodation (Theoretically) and the VIP bit allows you to check in 2 hours earlier than everyone else.

The Longleat "executive" accomodation is really what every one else would call comfort plus. In fact we stayed in a comfort plus at Longleat 18 months earlier and the villa we were in was marked as comfort plus on an old map! Every where else you get TVs in the extra bedrooms, a HiFi system, better soft furnishings - stuff like that. Not at Longleat. When we raised this with guest services they agreed that all the executive stock at Longleat is only comfort plus standard at the moment. But, they said, they were building all new stock whcih would open in time for the summer. No one was able to explain how they thought they would get away with charging the extra rate and not providing the service. I was simply re directed to the brochure small print disclaimers.

There was a lot of building work going on, and construction vehicles moving around the site all day. Not exactly the car free environment Center Parks trades as. I do wish they picked up the decompsing roadkill though.

To top it all off villa maintanance opted to use our sabatier knives as screwdrivers and broke the blades. I will admit that the knives provided in the villa all looked as if they had been put to similar use, but I would rather they had not extended the courtesy to ours! We complained - at the time and in writing afterward. We have yet to recieve even an ac
knowledgement.

Caveat Emptor I suppose.

Lucy

I too have recently returned from a weekend break there.

I endorse your comments about the building work.

I advise anyone who is unhappy with any aspect of their break at Center Parcs to take it up with the site customer service department as soon as possible and to ensure they speak to a duty manager to get the problem logged.

Center Parcs Terms and conditions mean they take no responsibility if the problem isn't reported before you leave.

I felt that the staff on site had been speciifically told not to discuss the building work as none would answer my questions (though one lady rolled her eyes, as if to say ' I agree with you..."

I also stayed in an Executive Villa, but had the expected additional TV, Spa bath, Hi Fi etc., so no complaints there.

In my opinion, if you are thinking of booking Longleat Center Parcs find out exactly where in relation to your villa the building work is taking place, or ensure it is completed before you visit.

If you've visited Longleat before and visit again over the next couple of months you may feel very disappointed...

Forget the small print, if they are advertising Executive Plus, KNOWING that they do not in fact have any and taking the extra money that is illegal. I imagine Trading Standards would like to know that, and also drop a complaint letter to the managing director!
