Chinchon is a special part of Spain. If you're ever travelling south from Madrid then you should divert off the main carriageway to chill out here. They are famous for their Anis (aniseed tasting alcohol) and garlic but that is not the reason for visiting here. It is a pretty little village that is all located around the circular centre which becomes a car parking area for about 50 weeks of the year but turns into the bullring at fiesta time. The houses climb steeply outwards from this centre and it is a lovely place to 'tomar algo' (drink something) even just a coffee, if driving and watch the people and the peace. There are restaurants and the odd tasteful artisan shops which all go to make it a perfect place to break your journey. If you can afford 'top of the range' accomodation then there is a beautiful parador (government owned luxury hotels) complete with swimming pool, pomegranate, lemon trees etc which make it a wonderful place to spend a day or two.
