I might be not very objective to this subject, because I lived for most of my life near cologne and worked in this city, but I still like to tell you about it. If you plan a trip to Cologne, go for it! It's perfect for a short trip over the weekend because you can get cheap flights with Easyjet or BMI baby to east midlands or London (from £40). The best place to stay is in a hotel near the main train station. It might be a bit loud at night, but if you want to go out in the evening you want to be in the centre and not 15 km outside. There are great subway connections throughout Cologne, but they stop around 12pm /1 am but the bars and clubs are ... Read the complete review

The other day I was in Köln am Rhein, the fourth largest German city with a bit more than one million inhabitants, Cologne on the Rhine for you, Colonia Agrippina for the Old Romans; the wife of Emperor Claudius was born on the banks of the Rhine and elevated her ’colonia’ to the status of a city in the year 50 A.D. I don’t know if you associate anything with Köln (the ‘ö‘ is pronounced like the ‘u‘ in burn), Germans think of Carnival, the Cathedral and Eau de Cologne. I won‘t tell you anything about Carnival (I did this already in the review ‘Crazy Carnival‘), it isn‘t the season anyway, the next begins on November 11th, at 11.11 o‘clock. I‘ll tell you ... Christmas in Cologne We went to Cologne this December so I could practice my German, we could go to the Christmas markets and we could take some much needed time off work. Actually, scrap that. Those were the reasons we went to Germany. The single reason we went to Cologne in particular was the flight schedules - Tui now fly there from Manchester, and our flights cost less than £70 return including taxes and the credit card fee (alarmingly charged per passenger, not per transaction). I had been to Cologne before, but not since 1991, which is a decent chunk of my life ago. My companion had never been there, nor anywhere else in Germany for that ... Read the complete review

COLOGNE Taking advantage of cheap airfares we decided to have a weekend break in Cologne, flying to Dusseldorf and then driving to Cologne, which is about an hour’s drive away. Unfortunately due to the extreme stormy weather last week our flight out on Thursday evening was cancelled so our trip was cut short by a day. Nevertheless we did have an enjoyable weekend and I would certainly recommend Cologne to anyone wanting a short break, or longer holiday. There is a host of things to do and see in Cologne and we managed to cram in a lot during the short time we were there. The blurb at the top of the review gives you an insight into the ... I was only in Cologne for a short while and so I can only write a short review. Cologne is a picturesque and a very nice town. As a lad of 19 I find it very hard to totally recomend, the buildings are very attractive, of particular note is the world famous Cathedral which is magnificent, I would certainly reccomend the strenuous walk up the spire which gifts you with an incredible and a beautiful view of the city. The shops in Cologne are good, if youre into music then of particular note is a massive music store, I cant remember where it was but it was huge and for anyone who likes music it is well worth a look! The only food I experienced in Cologne was the best kebab I ... Read the complete review
