Advantages: Lovely in the sun

Disadvantages: no surfing

I have just stayed at surfside hostel in coogee for a week, please see my seperate review for that.

Coogee is a eastern beach suburb, its below bondi.

You can walk between bondi and coogee in about an hour on the coastal path walk. Its fairly easy and there arent too many steps or hills, I saw whales from the wooden view point half way along!

Coogee has a mixture of residents, theres backpackers, tourists coming for the day and locals. The beach is beautiful, and packed on a weekend. I really loved being able to sit on the beach at night and just cross the road from my hostel to get there.

Theres no surfing on this beach, but plenty of people swim, theres a life saving club, and its manned by lifeguards.

If you like going out then the Coogee bay hotel is your best bet, its quite expensive but you get free entry to the club and the music is great. Theres a huge beer garden, and the atmosphere when its busy is fun.

If you like shopping there are a few surf style shops, but not really loads to do shopping wise. Theres a woolworths where you can get your food shopping, and loads of newsagents.

There are a huge amount of cafes and restaurants here, serving seafood, steaks, pizzas and just about anything. Theres also 2 places where you can get a good smoothie - The beach kiosk, which is slightly more expensive but the staff are funny and you can sit down at the beach. Or theres the melon head smoothie cafe, this isnt as good as the outside seating is on the pavement and next to the main road.

If you like a chilled out life you need never leave coogee. I however wanted something different so moved to Manly. I really enjoyed living in coogee for a week, and now the weather is really hot so I can imagine its a great time to go there!

Summary: Its a beautiful beach
