Copan holds stelae's - basically upright carvings of ther former rules of Copán rather than just the impressive pyramids. The intricate details does blow you away (although when I last went, was slightly disturbed that despite being a national treasure, the stelae's didn't seem that well protected) - carved in stone. You see the instruments used at the museum, which is attached to the site. The park is beautiful, get a guide! Definitely worth hearing the history behind everything and there is so much to see. You always hear about the ruins of Mexico or Guatemala - very rarely do you hear much about the Copan ruins but they are so worth going too! It is now a UNESCO world heritage site, located 1km from the town Copán. You can get regular buses to the site from there (and indeed from all over Honduras - but, the cheapest method is to get to the site via chicken bus rather than private transport through tourist agencies that can charge a fortune). The buses drop you off at the highway and you walk through fields and fields of banana plantations to get there but its a beautiful walk (take lots of mosquito spray!)
