Newest Review: ... Reach Ein Gedi but do not stop here. Drive past several factory type places until the Dead Sea is in sight, albeit quite a distance. So we begin our descent to the lowest point on earth, you have to keep reminding yourself where you are, I found it a very moving experience. And finally we arrive. There is a hotel on the left and a couple of shopson the right (the cafe is a must visit, the ... more

Premium Review Dead Sea (Israel): Visit the lowest point on earth (449 words)

My account of the Dead Sea. Main holiday was in Egypt, my first time on a plane and first time abroad. Set off about midnight from Sharm, many hours on a bumpy road to Taba and the Israeli border, we are at the Taba border terminal about 5am, quite a surreal experience, steaming hot, takes a while to get through Israeli customs and then here is where the real journey begins. Driving through the desert in the early hours with the sun rising over Jordan and Saudi in the distance is amazing. Reach Ein Gedi but do not stop here. We visited at the weekend, and although we weren't the only ones around, we were able to get a car park space (in the shade thankfully!!) and take a dip without it ...  Read the complete review

The Dead Sea is one of those places like the Eiffel Tower, Mount Everest, Rome and New York that most people want to visit at some time or another, unlike Rome and New York, perhaps less people do so but it's certainly well worth it. Located in the West Bank (Israel), the top of the lake is just a few kilometres from the Palestinian territory of Jericho. Apart from the forever shrinking lake which is an amazing 419 meteres below sea level and continuing to drop, the surrounding area is something that surprised me. I supposed that I hadn't expected anything in particular but the deserty Sinai like landscape that surrounds it is amazingly lunar. From the ...  Read the complete review
