Advantages: Beautiful, hot country, with amazing hotels and friendly people

Disadvantages: Also a poor country when travelling inland

I have just returned from a week long break in the dominican republic and I can honestly describe it as the most beautiful place in the world. the sand is pure white, the sea crystal blue and the temperature hot!! The minute you get off the plane you can feel how warm it is and straight away you can tell you're in the carribean, the airport has a thatched roof and carribean music is being played loud.

The country is pretty under-developed and was a bit shocked when we were travelling to our accomadation but once we arrived at our hotel we were amazed. It is very suprising how the people who live there seem to have so little but yet are so happy. They are the friendliest people you could meet.
All the hotels are 4 or 5 star and have a beach front location with watersports activities you can do.

We also went on two excursions, one a helicopter ride over the island which was just fantastic. It was expensive but as are all helicopter rides and where better to do it than in tropical paradise. We also went to the island of saona, which is even more beautiful, we went on a catermaran and came back on a speed boat, it was such a fun day and I would recommend it to anyone who has a chance to go.
Before I went I heard the dominican described as a poor mans carribean but it is anything but....pure paradise!!

Summary: Most beautiful place I have ever been
