EdmontonNewest Review: ... you are no doubt going to go to the Rockies. I would suggest hiring a car from Edmonton and if you really want to experience Canada then camping is the best way. There are 2 or 3 great camping shops where you can pick up gear if you haven't already got it. Jasper National Park is the closest NP from Edmonton. Once out of the city, the drive is a piece of cake and beautiful, but once you arrive in Jasper, then "beautiful" doesn't quite cut it. It is about 320km and takes about 4.5 hours. We arrived in Edmonton after getting off the train from Toronto which was 26 hours late! We were travel weary and utterly exhausted, but arriving in Edmonton was probably the best place to arrive after such a hellish journey. It is probably the friendliest place we have visited across the world and one of the best bases to set yourself up for a trip to the Rocky Mountains. Within the first 24 hours of being there, a bus driver gave us free tickets on his bus and then got off the bus with us and walked us over to the next bus and told the other bus driver exactly where we needed to get off (we were looking for our campsite!). It amuses some of my Canadian friends that my first experience of their country was Edmonton. Not the metropolitan Toronto or vibrant Montréal, nor the multicultural Vancouver. Just little old Edmonton, the boom town under the vast prairie sky. Edmonton is one of two cities in the western Canadian province of Alberta. As with most other provinces, it is the capital of the province despite being smaller than its big brother Calgary, three hours drive to the south. I have to say this City is out of this world.My dad who sadly is no longer with us was born there and then lived there until he was 4 months old and and then moved to the UK.I have 1 Aunt and her partner who live there along with my 4 cousins.I have been to visit Edmonton twice.The first time was in May 1998 and the second time was in May 2004.On my first visit I did lots of things like going to the West Edmonton Mall and went and looked at some historical places of interest and went to some Fast Food Resteraunts and even visited a Steakhouse called the Keg and I can always remember that while we were being waited to be seated me and my mum had not got a drink so we ...
