Advantages: A cheap, quiet resort perfect for the family
Disadvantages: seaweed smell.
We went to Es Cana in Ibiza as a birthday treat for me, we were advised it was a quieter part of Ibiza perfect for a chill out time and for the older generation or those with young families.
We arrived at half past ten in the morning and were greeted by our hotel receptionist Peter who helped us into the hotel with our suitcases. The hotel itself was like many others situated just across the street from the beach but unlike most holiday resorts the hotels were adequately spaced out and not all cramped and squashed together.
The hotel we stayed in was the Playa Sol. A basic hotel, but perfect for those who like a cheap holiday. The reception was mained for around 4 hours a day but if there were any problems you could speak to the family who ran the restaurant out front. We were lucky in that we were on the first floor and so there for had our own balcony with views of the beach and the sea. The hotel didn't have it's own pool but there was the option of using a pool in the Anfora hotel and also the option of a few pubs which allowed you to use their pool facilities too.
All the pubs and restaurants were in easy walking distance. A few of our favourites were:
Marvettes - a great pub/restaurant right on the beach front which offered takeaway services as well as the option to eat indoors. Prices were reasonable with burgers from around £3 and a value meal each day for around £8 which was 3 course. they also had the most amazing buns in their bakery. A meringue which was very similar to a snowball/vanilla slice love child.
Mar Y Huerta - This is actually a hotel but they open for non residents. It is run by a family who are all very helpful (the son is very dishy too!) Specials are around the 3 euro mark but you get giant portions of a meal for very little money. I love the Mar Y Huerta kebabs which were 5.15 for 4 very large kebabs, salad and chips.
Apache up the road near the Spar supermarket was brilliant on an evening especially for those who miss things like the X Factor as they show it in the bar. They also run an all night happy hour where you can get 2 pints of lager for 2 euro's.
We went self catering on our holiday and found it very affordable indeed. The supermarkets sold freshly baked baguettes for 75 cents, 2 litre bottles of pop for 53 cents, 3 tins of tuna for 1,76 and so on. It was also as mentioned above equally cheap to eat out.
There was plenty to do during the day from bus trips to Santa Eularia, boat taxi's around the island as well as a glass bottomed boat trip which takes you to see a ship wreck out by the cliffs. There is also a hippy market where you can purchase some hand made quirky items for cheap.
Over all a brilliant holiday, the only downside was a strong smell from the seaweed washing up on the beach.
Summary: A great holiday resort, perfect for the young family, and the older generations.
