Machair1 Katelios (Kefalonia): ... I initially booked a holiday to Kefalonia I had to be sure that the place I decided on was somewhere which would serve as a perfect base from which to explore the island, but would also afford some peace and privacy when we were staying in the locality for the day. Both myself and my husband are, and never were, club loving types preferring to visit places which are virtually untouched by tourism, though we do ...

SaveMeTheMoney Puerto Banus (Marbella, Spain)
... recently spent a weekend in Puerto Banus at a friend s stag. I had preconceptions of what the stag would be like, having read up on Puerto Banus and reading that it was something of a millionaires playground and Spain s answer to Monaco! Puerto Banus does have a lot of rich people either living or holidaying there. This is easy to see by the amount of luxury cars on show - I saw a Maybach, a lambourghini, a few ferraris, several porchses, plenty of Mercerdes and enough BMW s to sink a battleship! Speaking of ships, I have never seen as many luxury yachts in all my life - some of these were absolutely huge as well! All very impressive and opulent. It was fascinati...

MagdaDH Suwalki Region (Poland)
... north-eastern corner of Poland centres on the decidedly provincial town of Suwalki: close to the Lithuanian border, it s an area that is at the same time geographically remote from the current Poland s centre, and very close to the heart of many Polish identities and cultural mythologies. A place where religions, ethnicities and cultures met, intermingled, conflicted and lived together, Suwalki and its surrounding area (so called Suwalszczyzna) is a fascinating region for exploring eastern currents in Polish culture, while its remoteness form the centres of population and industrial regions makes the natural environment - lakes, forests and rivers - particularly appe...

MagdaDH Short Breaks and Day Trips from Gdansk (Poland)
... (and the rest of Tri-City) can easily afford several days of exploration, but for the visitors interested in day-trips out of the city, there are also plenty of opportunities. Pretty much all of the trips are doable by public transport, some more, some less easily. The landscape of the regions surrounding Gdansk is surprisingly varied: depending on the way you go, you can find yourself in a gently rolling countryside of the lakeland, on the dunes of a sandy Baltic beach or on pancake-flat fields of a below-the-sea-level depression. One of the obvious destinations for a day or a weekend trip is the Hel peninsula. (1) The Hel peninsula: a long sandbar closing the...
