My wife and I were on a cruise which stopped off at Fernado de Noronha, we found it to be a beautiful island if you were eco minded, as there is a law that states you must put anything back as you found it (except rubbish) some parts were forbidden to explore because of the native habitat. History: It was a garrison to the USA during WW 11 (existing artillery) because Brazil come on the side of the allies and there was a fear the Germans would invade the area. Before reaching Fernando de Noronha we'd mentioned it was one of our planned destinations to Brazilians we met and invariably they would sigh, and remark on how beautiful it was - paradise even... such wonderful beaches. Now, if asked I would not describe myself as a beach person, but then the beaches on Fernando do Noronha are not just like any beaches. If you are going to Brazil and want to treat yourself, or are just looking for a destination that is a little bit special then this could be the place. The island is small.
