Advantages: Not commercialised

Disadvantages: Isolated

My wife and I were on a cruise which stopped off at Fernado de Noronha, we found it to be a beautiful island if you were eco minded, as there is a law that states you must put anything back as you found it (except rubbish) some parts were forbidden to explore because of the native habitat.

History:
It was a garrison to the USA during WW 11 (existing artillery) because Brazil come on the side of the allies and there was a fear the Germans would invade the area.

We hired a beach buggy and took in most of the island in a day, but as mentioned in another review there is scuba diving and boat trips if you want to explore other areas.

It is not advised to take small children as they would get bored very quickly, apart from the limited beaches there is nothing for them.

The highlight of my visit was a mega walk to a cliff top where you could climb down to an isolated beach down a spiral of ladders and steps with tiny lizards runnig everywhere, I didn't attempt it as it was a long walk back to te beachh buggy. Without a large bottle of drinking water do not attempt it.

Ideal as part of cruise though.

Summary: Good for a one off trip
