Sights include Ohori Koen a beautiful park with a lake and art gallery, Nakasu the entertainment district, Dazaifu an old town just to the south featuring an ancient Shinto shrine, and the bay itself, extensive views of which can be gained by taking a bus across the harbour. Fukuoka is the largest city on the Southern Japanese island of Kyushu. It is a port, surrounded by mountains. It is Japan`s 10th largest city, and is roughly the same size as Birmingham, UK. Due to extensive bombing during during WW2, most of the city is new, although some older buildings have survived. It is home to the current (2003) best baseball team in Japan, the Hawks, and has several modern shopping complexes, most notably Canal city, an architectural marvel.
