Being that it is relatively close to the South American continent, Barbados is around 434 kilometres (270 miles) northeast of Venezuela. The closest island neighbours to Barbados are Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the west, Grenada to the south-west, and Trinidad and Tobago to the south which Barbados now shares a fixed official maritime boundary with.

Newest Review: ... Beach Resort, on the South Coast. It is twinned with a couple of hotels on the West Coast, which meant we could visit those hotels and eat/use the facilities there for free too - and the reviews we read regarding the hotel before we booked seemed to fit in with us as a family - with watersports for the husband, kiddy pool and kids club for our son - and a gorgeous beach for me! The hotel is ... more

Premium Review Holiday Resorts in Barbados in general: Barbados - Loved It (619 words)

I selected Barbados as the destination for our honeymoon in 2007. I've always wanted to go and as your honeymoon is meant to be the holiday of a lifetime - it was the perfect opportunity to push the boat out a bit, and go. Myself, my new husband and our 3yr old made the journey out there in June, and after the 9 hr flight, we were gutted to land to torrential rain, but we had been warned that it was the beginning of the rainy season - so we should have been prepared. Thankfully, it soon blew over, and that was the last rain shower we saw for the whole 2 weeks we were there. We opted to go All Inclusive, as it was our 1st time on the Island, and we ...  Read the complete review

Sam Lords Castle Barbados. I was married in Barbados on 25th Feb 2000 at Sam Lords Castle; this was my second attempt at marriage and also my husband to be. So we decided to go away somewhere warm and inviting and do the wedding bit just for us instead of the worry of inviting hundreds of guests and all the hassle that goes with it. When we set out on this task we were unsure as to where we wanted to go at first but decided on the Caribbean after looking at wedding packages this one seemed to provide all that we wanted with minimum effort on our part. So let's start at the beginning: We went along to our local travel ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Holiday Resorts in Barbados in general: The Crane Resort (1154 words)

It's been some time since we have been to Barbados, some 14 years in fact, and unlike last time, when it was just my wife and myself, this time we were taking our nine-year-old son and we were hoping that he would enjoy the Caribbean. We were on a three-week vacation starting and ending in Barbados, but taking a middle week in St. Lucia. The first week we were staying at The Crane Resort on the south east of the island and we were fortunate to be staying in the original resort (they are building new blocks, but more of that later). Our apartment overlooked the pool to such an extent that we could throw down the towels onto the beds below and if we had ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Barbados not expensive? (325 words)

Disagreeing with a previous article writer who claims that you have to 'go all inclusive' in Barbados to get quality & affordability. This is absolutely at odds with my experience. There are lots of places to eat out deliciously and for good value - not restaurants aimed at tourists, but e.g. the 'fish fry' type huts (try the big one at Oistins on the south coast, lots of choice of different huts, cooks, prices, fish). Absolutely delicious, a big plate of yummy fried 'steak'fish, salad and rice about 4 quid last time I looked. Absolute nonsense to infer that if you 'eat with the locals' you 'take your chances' i.e. you are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Holiday Resorts in Barbados in general: Go Inclusive or go bust. (431 words)

Our daughter decided to get married in Barbados in October 1998 & it was absolutely fantastic. We stayed at the Almond Beach Village which seemed to cover acres & acres of ground – all beautifully manicured & heady with the scent of Hibiscus. The rooms were comfortable although the air conditioning was a bit noisy but anyone who has stayed in an American Motel soon learns to be grateful for the coolness & ignores the rattles & bangs. There were 9 pools of differing sizes dotted over the complex – we had one right outside our room & could swim at dawn & again under the stars – it was never very busy & it felt as if it was our own – sheer ...  Read the complete review
