Advantages: Sun Sea & ........sleep
Disadvantages: Very expensive to eat out.
Our daughter decided to get married in Barbados in October 1998 & it was absolutely fantastic. We stayed at the Almond Beach Village which seemed to cover acres & acres of ground – all beautifully manicured & heady with the scent of Hibiscus. The rooms were comfortable although the air conditioning was a bit noisy but anyone who has stayed in an American Motel soon learns to be grateful for the coolness & ignores the rattles & bangs. There were 9 pools of differing sizes dotted over the complex – we had one right outside our room & could swim at dawn & again under the stars – it was never very busy & it felt as if it was our own – sheer luxury. Five restaurants gave us plenty of choice although it proved difficult to book the Italian – the most sophisticated. So book on arrival is my tip.The food was very good & although I’m very suspicious of “buffet “ meals & the food poisoning which usually goes with them in my experience, they were fine & none of us had any tummy trouble at all. Needless to say – if you eat out with the locals then you take your chances. Whilst on the subject of food – “all inclusive” is a must in Barbados. On a trip to Bridgetown my son in law was charged £10 for a burger & chips & £3 for a coke. What can I say about the beach & the sea ? At one stage I thought that I had died & gone to Heaven; the sea IS that wonderful azure colour & so, so warm – like a warm bath. You just sink into it & being very salty it is extremely easy to float and relax. That is on the west coast – bit different on the other side of the island where the Atlantic breakers pound the shores . There were several hawkers on the beach selling anything & everything but they were not intrusive or persistent & they made a big fuss of my blonde blue-eyed grandson. Always smiling always happy such a wonderful people. The younger members of our party enjoyed the fre
e water sports to the maximum as well as the gym, tennis courts & golf course. They also really enjoyed the free drinks for about 2 or 3 days until they finally slowed down & the novelty wore off. I believe there was a very good nightclub but after a day in the sun sipping pina coladas followed by a gentle swim & lovely food this “old Lady “ was in bed by 10 looking forward to the next day. A perfect place to relax. Oh yes, the wedding was good too!.
