Advantages: Three amazingly placed tavernas by the see, peaceful, friendly people

Disadvantages: Not a lot going on

NISSAKI: Another summer arrives, meaning another family trip to the Corfu Village of Nissaki. Nissaki is a small sea-side village in North-East Corfu. The main Nissaki area consists of a handful of tavernas (three of which are by the sea), several villas, Beach Hotel (don't know much about this), Sea View Hotel, a water sports jetty, a scuba diving centre, and a small gift shop.

When we go to Corfu in July-August time, it is very hot during the day. This means the best thing to do is lounge around with a book, and have short dips in the pool. However, one day I ventured down to the Nissaki Water Sports, where I had a go at Para-sailing. It was an amazing experience as being so high, yet so close to the island, gave great unbeatable views.

When you first arrive you will notice how prominent the sound of crickets is. However, you soon get used to this and it becomes quite relaxing. You are also sure to see many a stray cat, everywhere.

A few times we ventured outside of Nissaki, and visited other villages. Notably we went to Paleokastritsa on the West coast of Corfu. Here you can find the ultimate views of Corfu, especially from the top of the hill we went up, from the monastery.

Our evening begins by walking down the hill, away from the road, towards the three tavernas located by the sea, our favourite being the Mitsos Taverna (around since 1955) which is actually surrounded by the sea. Over the years we have bonded with the staff, and the taverna itself, and are always welcomed back upon return to Nissaki. The view from Mitsos Taverna overlooks the main curvature of Corfu, so is pretty unbeatable. To be really picky, the sun sets on the other side of the island, but that doesn't affect me as the moonlight makes up for the loss. After the meal we stroll around the peaceful harbour, shortly before heading to the Sea View apartments where we socialise with familiar faces, and enjoy a few drinks whilst gazing at the view. The Sea View Apartments is a friendly place with a bar that welcomes in all people, even if they are not staying there - very welcoming. The other two tavernas in this area are called The Olive Press, which has a regular Greek dancing night, and Parea.

We ate in a few Tavernas outside of Corfu in villages including Vitamin along the road, Stathis in Ipsos, and a nice taverna in Kassiopi. The food in Corfu is really nice. Available is typical English food, freshly caught fish, greek salads and so much more.

To summarise, Nissaki is a quiet villiage with not a huge amount going on. However, you will get to know lots of local people, along with those holiday-makers like yourself who return year upon year. For people who prefer a lively nightclub scene with pubs and flashing lights, then Ipsos is not too far away.

Summary: Peaceful, idyllic, you don't know what it's like untill you go there
