Holiday Resorts in Gran Canaria in generalNewest Review: ... resides. this really is an awful place which we gave various names such as hell valley, village of the dammed or the gauntlet. And believe me, entering this monstrocity really was like running the gauntlet as you were pestered by vultures perched outside their restaurants beseeching, shouting and threatening you to come in. One particularly repellant norman wisdom look alike took delight in shouting after people and abusing them if they declined his cringing entreaties to go into his restaurant. one evening we went for a meal and decided to answer all such requests/demands by telling them that we were meeting some one in the resturant we had... more |

Having read the recent reviews of others on line about Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria i had to go and get an atlas out to see if there were two identically named places; one of which was wonderfull and the other which i visited last week. But no, they were talking about the same place. I guess i may be at fault for not appreciating the finer points of spending ones holiday in an open air shopping mall being pestered by strangers and ripped off by all and sundry, but if this is not what you envisage as the perfect holiday, then take heed and read on. As you drive in to puerto rico, you see hotels, as you go further, you see hotels, further in you see the ... Read the complete review

My partner and I went to Puerto Rico just recently ? we got back yesterday morning! First of all the resort in general: The hotels are all built into a big hill which is sort of the shape of a horseshoe. In the middle of the ?horseshoe? is the commercial centre with most of the bars and restaurants. At the end of the horseshoe is the beach and more places to eat and drink. I did feel that the area was too built up and far too tourist orientated. It seems to have been spoilt by the local?s desire to extract as much money from tourists as possible ? you are constantly being badgered to eat in people?s restaurants. There are also the annoying English reps ... Read the complete review

I have just got back from a week long holiday in Gran Canaria. I had a fantastic time. Gran Canaria is one of the Canary Islands along with Lanzarote, Tenerife, and Fueteventura, being the most famous. I stayed in the resort of Puerto Rico, located at the south of the island. There is a man made beach, as the sand would naturally be black. Then all the apartments are set on the side of mountains, with all the entertainment being in the commercial centre. This resort is guaranteed a year round summer, and temperatures reach 30+ degrees. I had an average of 30 degrees every day, although one day it reached 33 degress centigrade. There is plenty ... Shortly before we were married, my wife visited this resort with one of her girlfriends. She raved about how relaxing it was and so we decided to go back this June (200). Maspolomas is a very quiet resort, and the hotel is located away from the centre. A 5 minute cab ride for around 5 Euro will get you to the shopping centre. The Princess/Tabaiba hotels are very clean (apart from the odd bit of wildlife which found its way into the ladies toilet!) and have a pleasant atmosphere. The food is good, if somewhat bland....the local Mojo sauce is an accquired taste... They have a well equiped gym, and the swimming pools are fantastic. One ... Read the complete review

We went to Grand Canaria a couple of years ago. We are a couple, both in our early thirties. It was our first visit to the canaries and I think we would go back when we have seen the other parts of the world that are also on our list. We stayed in the lively resort of Playa del Ingles and I think I would say there is plenty for all ages. There are nightclubs for the younger crowd; pubs and bars and restaurants a plenty. Accommodation is generally of quite a good standard from what we saw. We stayed in self catering apartments about 20 mins walk from the sea and our walk down took us past much of the holiday accommodation, most of which was traditional ... Read the complete review
