Advantages: Good for families
Disadvantages: Lots of steps to beach
My family and I have been to Ibiza a few times to a little quite part of the island called Portinax. It is a very quiet part of the island and is usually visted by older people and families.
The main attraction for me was the beach. It is perfect for children with clean, clear blue water and is quite shallow so perfect for little ones. every time we go my husband always goes snorkling because the water is perfect for it. The beach is sandy and is very clean. It is cleaned every morning. The sun beds are a bit grubby and could do with an upgrading.
We stayed in a hotel called "El Greco" which was fantastic. It was clean enough but could do with a little bit of upgrading. The food, superb and definetly catered for the British. The entertainment is geared towards the children and finishes at midnight so again, good for families who are not looking for any noise. However, in the middle of July, portinax have a festival on which can be quite noisy. it last over a weekend. They have a party on the beach with DJ's which goes on through the night. They also have a wonderful fireworks display on the last night of the festival which is superb.
The staff at the El Greco were brilliant very friendly and always willing to help. I have never visted a hotel where so many things have been included, brilliant. The all inclusive finishes at midnight.
Portinax, is a very quite little place, there isnt very many shops pubs or restaurants, so you are very limited as to where you can go. It was to me, in the middle of nowhere so hiring a car would be beneficial if you wish to "explore" island.
There is a hippy market not far from the hotel on a Sunday and a Wednesday which is good fun and is usually very busy. There is also a water park next to the hotel which you get free entry to, but, I wasnt impressed with this. I thought it was a bit dirty looking, and I wasnt convinced that the water slides etc were "safe".
I will definetly go back again. This hotel has many steps leading down to the beach so it can be a bit of a pain carrying a buggy up and down, in that respect it isnt very "child friendly", but I feel the beach, the hotel cleanliness and food and just the general "chill, relax" feel about the place cancels this out.
Summary: Good hotel, great beach
