Advantages: Great place, diverse
Disadvantages: Bad reputation
When I think of Ibiza Uncovered on the Television, I think to myself, "Did that programme do more harm for Ibiza than good?" The reason I say this is I have had 3 holidays in Ibiza and am yet to to experience any of the bad parts of that ghastly programme. I think it must be a PR Coup for drunken yobs looking to blow all of their holiday money and a PR disaster for general families. The truth is, San Antonio is like that but there is so much more to see and do on this Island, that there is something for everyone. I hope to alleviate some fears with my opinion as well as point out some of the places to go and not to go. Firstly, lets get the clubbers out of the way! SAN ANTONIO. ------------ When you see the frolics in Ibiza on TV, 9 times out of 10 they are based here. San Antonio is on the SouthWest Coast of the Island and nearest to the Spanish mainland. It proves to be one of the most popular resorts for teenagers and 20 somethings looking for plenty of lively action. I would not personally reccomend it to families but at the same time I see many happy families going about their holiday while being based in San An. The problem will be lack of Sleep if based in the town. Its always kicking and lively and of course, noisey. During the day, you can enjoy the beach. Best to walk quite a way from the town if you want a nice bit. The harbour is full of boats and unfortunately rubbish too. Not the safest or cleanest of areas to be swimming. One thing I do remember about San Antonio is the big Egg shaped sculpture as you arrive in the town. Good places? Want a drink and to look good? Cafe Del Mar is now famous for the Radio 1 broadcasts and is easy to find if you know where to look. Just walk around the edge of the harbour until you get to the rocks. You will see it. The town is full of lively bars but the best clubs, or should I say the larger ones are based ou
t of town. Good starting point if you want a few beers though. Good place to pick a fake watch or bracelet too! Best for the young me thinks. Airport transfer time - 20-25 mins. IBIZA TOWN. ----------- More for the "less restrained" guest. Anything goes here in the quaint fishing village of Ibiza Town. I recommend a visit here at least once in your life just to see what goes on. We stayed just down the road in Playa Den Bossa and ventured up! Dont stay here is you have any predjudices though. There is a high Gay population here and they are quite flamboyant and exhibitionist to say the least! As are the transvestites that seem to holiday here. It is also the place to stay if you are rich and famous. There are some old world type shops here and its a nice place to come and shop. See a piece of history and old Ibiza. Best for the Flamboyant amongst you that like a no holds barred holiday. Airport transfer time - 10 mins. PLAYA DEN BOSSA. ---------------- Families should come here. Its lively enough for most, a short spit from the airport and has nice beaches. You are also far enough form San Antonio should you so desire to be. Based on the East Coast of the Island, Playa Den Bossa is a family place. A real "bucket and spade" type holiday. There are many English familes here with children of all ages. I liked it here and I went with my fiance who is now my wife. We hired a car and toured the island as this is the best place to do that from. Reason being you cna get to everywhere from here as all roads lead to Playa Den Bossa due to its proximity to the airport. Best for Families Airport Transfer Time - 5-10 mins ES CANA. -------- Es Cana is where the hippy commune resides that you may have heard about. They came in the 60's and never left! There is plenty more here than that thoug
h although their market every Wednesday is very interesting to tour. Its excellent for families due to its quiet relaxed atmosphere and sandy beaches. There is some nightlife but dont expect it to rival San An! Plenty of countryside to see, you can walk the North coast or explore the hills. This is a very tranquil place. Best for quiet Family holidays but be prepared to sit on the bus. Airport Transfer time - 45 mins to 1 hour So there you have my guide to Ibiza holiday resorts. I hope it helps make up your mind if you are looking at going. The last thing you want to do is go to Ibiza and end up in a resort that does not suit. Its not all AVING IT LARGE!

- 13/11/01 Brilliant op andy... I'd just add that the opposite side of San Antonio - what they call San Antonio bay - is really suitable for familes...;)
