Branded 'cool' Mandeville, it lives up to it's name. Although it is still very hot, it is slightly cooler than other places on the island such as the coast. It's located in the hills of Jamaica in the mainland, so you really get a feel for Jamaica culture as you drive through the town. Jamaica, the very word conjures up a picture of lush tropical beaches, sun-filled days and romantic nights as the sun goes down in a dramatic blaze of colour. Yet there is far more to the island than just beaches and scenery. I went there in the mid 1990’s but my memory of that two-week holiday is as fresh in my mind as if it was yesterday. At that time it was still fairly expensive to spend a holiday there despite it being one of the largest and cheapest islands to visit in the Caribbean.
