The Kamary Bay Hotel is a family owned and run hotel It is situated centrally in Kefakos. It is actually in Kamari Bay, as Kefalos village is like so many other Greek island villages hidden in the hills away from the fishing harbour or port. In years gone by the Aegean Sea was festooned with invaders pirates and would be conquerors. Nowadays the invaders are all welcomed from whatever country they fly in from.

The Hotel has 42 bedrooms and an official rating of C the rooms are rated on two sharing on a bed and breakfast basis. I`m afraid I have to mark it down for its breakfast. It consists of Orange juice, a Bread bun, Butter, Jam and Tea or Coffee and that`s it. If that is not enough for you, skip it and go just down the road and you can have a full English breakfast for next to nothing with a sea view thrown in.

Outside there are a lovely big pool and kiddies paddling pool. There were no kids there at the time so we adults took over and tended to gravitate to it to sit and chat with other guests. There are sun beds and brightly coloured umbrellas. At the front entrance there is a small car park with enough space for your hire car or scooter. The pool side bar has two arias that provide shade and the food is good and inexpensive. When we were there it was run by a young local girl who always had one of her friends helping out, well keeping her company. She was very pleasant and able with what little English she knew have a joke with you. She would adapt recipes top your liking and try to get hold of things that they did not have. She liked listening to music and eagerly thumbed through our cd collection.

The hotel bar was run by the nephew of the owner. He had been born in the village of Kefalos then taken to Canada by his parents. He had returned as a youth and after his national service had settled back in to the village. He was a very interesting young man full of information about the resort He knew where to go and more importantly

where not to go and did not mince his words as to why. The down side of the bar was that it did not open until the early evening so for us it became a meeting place prior to going out to eat. Then later on a place for a night-cap or two, or three. A place where you could have a quiet drink or a late night drinking session.

The owner is Yannis Greek for John; we got on like a house on fire. He was always happy to have a laugh and a joke. He is one of those Greeks that understand far more English that they let on. In some I find this annoying but with Yannis it is part of his charm. I myself speak a little Greek, the odd word or phrase; however like Yannis I do tend to catch more of the drift of conversations rather than understand them. We ended the holiday having our photograph taken outside the main entrance. Yanis proclaiming me a good friend. I later had the picture printed on a T-shirt and sent it to him. I told him I was going to do it and he said that if I did next time I went it would be a free bar for his friend. One day I might just take him up on that offer.

Overall the holiday was brilliant. Kos is a lovely green island. Kefalos has everything you would want and still more. There is good food, entertainment, plenty to see and do and above all some lovely people. We would not hesitate to go back in the future to see all our friends, and run up a bar bill with Yannis.

Well I'm sorry to bring a downer onto this gleaming review.
I just came back last night from kefalos in kos, after staying at the kamari bay hotel.
I would never choose to stay in the hotel again. We found the owner to be very rude, and the room very uncomfortable. (not to mention not very clean) I dont know how they had the cheek to charge people for bed and breakfast, when the breakfast wasnt even fit to feed the birds with.
We paid good money to stay in that hotel, we were allocated on arrival, and I think that the owner doesnt like this. and it shows, in the treatment of the guest and in the standard of the room. (one wafer thin pillow and a sheet with holes in)
On the first night we left the balcony light on by mistake,(an easy mistake to make) the owner wasted no time in flying into our room (while i was in the middle of undressing, to make us aware of this)
we were the youngest people in the hotel (24 and 29)
all the other guests were well over 50/60, and obviousley he favours the older generation. (if you ever want to know what it's like in an old folks home, just go there for a visit).
To go out of the building you had to walk past him on the reception, and he was the nosiest person ever.
we took our beach towels out with us one day, aswell as an extra white towel (which belonged to us) any way he almost accused me of pinching his towel.
well as you will understand when you have worked hard to go away on holiday, you dont need some stranger making you annoyed for no reason, towards the end of the week i had a few choice words with him.

any way, i'm off home, but take my advise. DONT BOTHER! There are plenty more hotels than there!

Another excellent review, but then that's what I've come to expect from you now! It sounds a like lovely hotel - should I ever travel to Kos (which I just might after reading your Kos review!), I will look out for that hotel. Pity about the breakfast - you'll have to try and smuggle some kellogg's cornflakes through customs next time you visit (sorry, couldn't resist!). Well done again. Ziggy.
