Rhodes is a small Greek Island which lies about 11 miles off the southwest coast of Turkey. It is one of over 6000 islands which belong to Greece. It is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands, and has a population of around 110,000 people. It is home to the Colossus of Rhodes (which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World). Rhodes old town (which is actually a city!) is also a world heritage site. Rhodes is one of Greece's largest tourist destinations. Rhodes is a beautiful place it was very quiet when we went in June. The temperatures were around 23 degrees as we stayed on the west coast of the island. We hired a car and got extremely lost on our adventure to Lindos. I am a nervous passenger but the roads were very wide and we hardly met any traffic. We turned the wrong way and ended up going up a very steep mountain which was hair raising but once we got to the top we just had to get out and admire the view. It really is a picturesque island. The Choice... This was my first holiday away with my mum (we now go away each year for a week) and one of her closest friends, and after browsing through countless brochures we finally chose the little resort of Haraki in Rhodes for the first week in June, staying at the Stella Studios sharing a two bedroomed apartment. When most people think of Rhodes, they think of Faliraki, probably the party capital of Greece and therefore its influence reigns over the island. Wrong! There is a secret hidden on the coast of Rhodes called Lindos. The village is set on a hill below an acropolis that overlooks the Greek village and sheltered blue water coves. By day you can walk around the village or take a donkey ride to the top of the acropolis. By night the village comes alive.
