Advantages: Suits all tastes., Beautiful place., Great atmosphere.

Disadvantages: Not ideal for families., Very hot- could be an advantage?!, Very busy in August.

When most people think of Rhodes, they think of Faliraki, probably the party capital of Greece and therefore its influence reigns over the island. Wrong! There is a secret hidden on the coast of Rhodes called Lindos. The village is set on a hill below an acropolis that overlooks the Greek village and sheltered blue water coves. By day you can walk around the village or take a donkey ride to the top of the acropolis. By night the village comes alive. The bars open the restaurants become busy with a great atmosphere about the place.
The Greeks are friendly and the man that runs the pedaloo’s by day has his own bar by night! You must respect the Greek work ethic! There are many fantastic places to eat that vary in price but you will not be disappointed whether you have a ‘Lindos pancake’ ( I recommend the Chocolate or Banana) or you sample some of the local fish in the best restaurants, who can guarantee its fresh that day. Also for the more adventurous of us there are the bars that have a great feel to them and some fantastic cocktails that is sure to get your holiday in full swing!

However, one of the best things about Lindos is that you can be in the middle of a busy village with bright lights and disco’s but two minutes walk and you’re on the beach. Also unlike other holiday resorts most of the accommodation is set around the village so that when you return to your apartment you’re in for a good night sleep. Lindos itself is relaxing, there seems to be no evidence of criminal activity and despite it being largely populated by young and middle age couples, there is something for everyone, whereby everyone feels they belong.

Lindos is romantic and good value for money but if you’re after a wild night out there is the option of a taxi into Faliraki as well as tour operators organised trips to the party capital where you can have a great time and return to the quiet side of the island in th
e early hours. For young children and families the island is limited in its facilities. Furthermore, the heat will make young children prone to burning and the beach may get a bit crowded for young ones in the peak season. It is better therefore if it’s a family holiday to go miss out July- August and as a result misses the heat and the crowds.

It's also worth taking a visit to Rhodes town where there are are
great shops and the perfect place to pick up your holiday mementos. The old town reflects its name and is a chance to see some of the islands history whereas the ‘new town’ is perhaps a reflection on western influence and tourism on the island, but worth a wonder anyway.

Hope it helps!
