Holiday Resorts in Thailand in generalNewest Review: ... to experience the real feel of Thailand (as I had as a young woman) and in that respect I think it failed. The hotel fronts the sea in a sheltered cove some miles down the coast from the main resort of Phuket. Theer are 5 hotels spread out over goodness knows how many square metres but suffice to say there is a real sense of space and freedom around you. The landscaping of the hotel was ... more |

I travelled around Thailand in my twenties and fell in love with the country and the culture. Approaching 40 I returned to Thailand for a holiday and as I was older with bit more money (not to mention being disinclined to rough it this time) I opted for 5 star luxury and booked in to the Dusit Laguna hotel (one hotel in a complex of 5 ran by the Sheraton group) which is located about half an hour from the resort of |Phuket. I had my reservations as I had never particularly been one for the 5 star posh hotel thing but something just looked appealing about this one and I wasnt disappointed. I was intrigued to see whether when staying in ... Read the complete review

Crown Tailors on Sukhumvit soi 8 - Excellent Suits at excellent prices
Pantip Plaza - i've now got all my computer stuff done for cheap!
Anna's Cafe - excellent food on SILOM!

Bangkok Day one in Bangkok was manic as we were trying to see as much as we could of this huge bustling City in the 2 days we were there, so we set our alarms for 7.30 am. We asked the Hotel to get us a taxi to pick us up at 8,30am, and this is when we first met Woob, who would turn out to be our personal driver for the time we were in Bangkok. Taxis here are so cheap that you can literally hire them for hours without costing the earth! First of all, we visited a tailoress who we had used before on a previous visit, and I was measured up for a dress which I had planned for weeks before arriving in Bangkok. She measured me, and assured ... Read the complete review

The royal resort of Hua Hin is a delightful sleepy little town in SE Thailand. There are no famous tourist attractions, not too many girlie bars and a lovely long sandy beach. The first week of our visit coincided with a travelling market and a funfair, so there was extra activity there. This was around the time of the queen's birthday (9th August if I recall) so there may have been a connection. There are a few shops and a small night market, a golf course and a pretty little railway station. The royal palace is not open to the public and there's little to see from the road, the bars and restaurants are mainly centred close to the Sofitel Central, so it makes ... Read the complete review

. In this opinion I look at the Southern Thai town of Hat Yai which is a shopper's haven and a very good place for lovers of seafood. Hat Yai in Thailand as a holiday destination, has in truth very little to interest the adventurous tourist or culture seeker. It is really nothing more than a shopper's haven. At least Malaysian shoppers anyway, who come in droves at the weekends and public holidays, crossing the border from the northern Malaysian state of Kedah through the customs checkpoint at Bukit Kayu Hitam. The drive from the border to the centre of Hat Yai takes approximately 45 minutes, and the journey is ... Read the complete review
