Advantages: hot, fun

Disadvantages: sleezy waiters

I went to Icmeler which is just outside Marmaris for a week in July 2007. It was a late booking and Turkey seemed to be the only thing availible in my price range. Turkey's never really been a place where i thought i would like to go to but i thought i'd give it a go, and by the end of the holiday i didn't want to leave!

The weather when i was there was really really hot, but luckily in most shops/hotels/restraunts there is air conditioning. If you can't handle the heat however, i would not reccomend going to Turkey. The beach in Marmaris is ok, theres sun loungers everywhere that you can use, but you need to pay for them. Theres restraunts / bars / shops right next to the beach so you dont need to walk far to get a drink or some food. The annoying thing is that when your lying on the beach [especially women] the waiters from the restraunts constantly pester you into buying things from their bar. On one day, one waiter actually grabbed onto my arm when i was trying to buy some ice cream and wouldnt let me out the bar, i found this quite scary as we were the only 2 in the place, and from then on i made sure i was always with a guy, cos a girl walking about the beach in Marmaris on her own is guaranteed to get hassled and it is really annoying because they dont give up and will try at anything.

The nightlife in marmaris is great, theres loads of bars to choose from. One bar that i really liked, i think it was called the Three Bells, had the waiters just get up and dance and compete with the bar accross the road. It was like a big dance off and really entertaining.

The food in Marmaris wasn't much diffrernt from British food. It's relatively cheap and so is alcohol.

Theres lots of trips you can go on but i'd reccomend booking them through your rep. I went on one of the Safari's and i thought it was brilliant. You get drove about on one of them Safari jeep cars and you up go through all the mountains and small turkish villages where you actually get taken into somones house and get to see how they live. The drivers drive crazy and fast which makes it that bit more exciting. The scenery is beautiful and the whole thing gets recorded for you and you can buy the dvd if you like. I would reccomend this day out to anyone as it is a lot of fun and lasts pretty much all day.

Most things are in walking distance but theres busses that you can get around in if you cant be bothered walking. Theres also taxi's aswell.

I travelled with ScotTravel and wasn't impressed with them that much as they over booked the hotel we were supposed to be in so us and another family had to go in a really small hotel next door. At first we were pretty annoyed by this but the atmosphere in the small hotel was brilliant and everyone got to know each other really well compared to if you are staying in a big hotel. The swimming pools in most of the hotels in Marmaris were quite small, but i found it better just going down to the beach instead.

I didn't get to experience that much in Marmaris as i was only there for a week and didnt bring much money with me, but i would definetly go back!

Summary: money well spent

Hmm - there is actually a category just for Icmeler if you look for it. That's where the review should be posted. That said, you mostly mention Marmaris so maybe you should have reviewed that under the category for Marmaris instead.

The problem is you don't tell us much about either place really - what there is to see and do. And please spell check!
