Advantages: beautiful churches

I went to Iasi last year and I was very pleasantly suprised after the stories I heard before I went. I went on a work trip so I didn't do a great deal of research as I wasn't planning on having much spare time to explore but I spoke to some people who had been to Romania or from what I can gather were just guessing what it would be like.

The city of Iasi is lovely. Obviously quite poor as it is in the poorest region of the country. From the city itself I wouldn't have guessed this. It is home to beautiful churches, a wonderful town hall building and some lively restuarants.

However, there is clearly a divide between rich and poor and many have turned to alcohol so you can see people, even elderly ladies, swigging from bottles on the street and if you venture further afield there are some very deprived areas. There is also a stray dog problem.

People are friendly, lots to see and a wonderful experience. I am definately planning to go back.

Summary: a lovely place to visit
