Advantages: It's easy to find your way about in a very large shed

Disadvantages: There are only two shops

Situated in Northern Finland, or Lapland as the children know it, Ivalo Airport is possibly the smallest airport ever.

2 hours and 50 minutes from Glasgow, I flew to Finland with my daughter before Christmas and it was like landing at a large garage! Don't think I am slagging the place, the people were wonderful, brought reindeer out to the plane to meet the kids.

We went into the main (only) terminal to check in and straight out the back door and across a large tarmacced area to an aircraft hanger filled with snow suits and boots.

Then back across to the bus and away we went. Total time at airport no longer than 40 minutes.

There are only two shops but well worth the visit if you have time, selling loads of lovely stuff including reindeer droppings, ideal for those Secret Santa presents!!

One tip: If you are going on the Santa trip, use the loos before you leave the airport, there is no running water or electricity once you are in the forest and it is very very cold!! (from -5 to -35) The 'toilet' is effectively a bucket - you have been warned!

Summary: Very small, Very friendly airport

I assume, then, that this is in the north of Finland? Somewhere near Lapland, maybe? If you are writing about somewhere a bit obscure like this, then describing the location is very useful to your readers! :-)
