I spent 4.5 months travelling around India. I based myself in Goa and travelled to Kerala (South) and Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur in the North - and various places in between. I have to say that Jodhpur was one of the locations that really stood out for me - and I would go back there again.
The locals are friendly and the area has lots of nice things to see and do. We visited the main castle in Jodhpur - you can see for miles around. We then took a tour of the blue city. There were palaces to see and markets to visit, gardens to relax in and the desert to admire.
There are lots of lovely places to stay overnight. We spent £3.00 each per day which covered our basic accommodation and food/water - but all ancilliary bits were extra. If you go here with the attitude that it's not the same as England and learn to laugh off the idiosyncracies then you will be happier. E.G. Accommodation with a shower may mean that you get a bucket of water to shower yourself in, a carrot salad may mean a carrot roughly chopped up in big round circles - not the nicely grated salad that we would expect. Take it on the chin. The place is different. The fruit juices taste like they've added sugar but they haven't...the fruit/veg are just sweeter here. They take their time showing you places - so don't be in a rush. You will love it here, I can guarantee it!! :-)
I've deleted a good portion of this review and will shortly post a fuller description of my visit - watch this space 26/2/09. xx

- 26/01/09 That's better - thanks for the changes. You might want to check that bit about the blue city though. I think it's only the Brahmin caste who paint their houses rather than a general law but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. |

- 25/01/09 Unfortunately I'm with fizz on this one - far too much of the review was about India or Rajastan in general. If you want to write about India in general, there's almost certainly a category on dooyoo where you can do that, or if not just add a suggestion so you can write about the places you want to.
Overall this was a pretty good review but my rating is based on just the section that was actually about Jodphur which wasn't long enough or detailed enough for me.
Keep it up though, it's good to see a new travel writer on the site. |
