There's a general concensus that Katowice is struggling but that couldn't be further from the truth, it's actually the most prosperous region in Poland and has seen tonnes of investment from foreign companies, unemployment is low. It's just a case of "The Proclaimers" - ugly but successful! What Katowice does really lack is a decent nightlife, pubs tend to be small Polish pub/clubs or German beer hall styled places and they tend to close up relatively early, you will not find particularly modern cafes and bars and certainly a poor selection of nightclubs. Of interest to Germans due to its history, quite cheap, easy enough to get to Busy trains in the summer, a lot of holidaymakers, town a bit bland

Great Art Nouveau Architecture in an Industrial City Maybe a Bit Rough Around the Edges For Some

An interesting city with a wealth of museums, picturesque old town and friendly people Some of the buildings are too dominant and spol the overall look of the city

A great place to base yourself for visits in the South East of Poland Not the easiest to pronounce nor the most beautiful but nice and well located
