What to say about Kavos?? To be honest I was dreading going here on a girls holiday. I had heard pretty negative things about it and was very anxious about my impending trip but I actually really enjoyed it. It's not the nicest place to go on your holidays but if your looking for somewhere nice I don't imagine you would be choosing a place renowned for it's nightlife. Corfu itself is a lovely place and I have had many a beautiful sightseeing holiday in Greece but I would not recommend Kavos for this. This place is for staying up all night and sleeping all day.
By night Kavos is thriving, the place literally consists of a strip of bars and clubs with people standing outside trying to ply you with alcohol. The drinks are really cheap here which was a surprise as based on previous experience, places that are renowned for drinking tend to overcharge because they know people will pay. Kavos isn't like this, it is dirt cheap! A typical drinks deal between four of us involved us each paying five euro and we each got two cocktails, two shots and two fishbowls to share. They also do cocktails in pints (the names of which are unrepeatable) which contain 9 different spirits. The downside is that business is very competitive and you do get hounded by the PRs whilst I appreciate this is how they earn a living I don't think they should be picking people up and dragging them into bars or pinching girls handbags and cameras to make them follow them in, I think this is going a bit too far. We tried lots of the bars throughout our stay but we always ended up in The Rolling Stone bar, this was our favourite and has a super nice DJ who will play what you want, including the incredibly unfashionable hand jive for a certain friend of mine! The strangest thing about Kavos is that there is an agreement between the bars and the police that music will be turned off at 1am, this obviously doesn't occur and when the police drive down the strip all the bars temporarily turn off the music. Quite funny to observe.
I recommend Kavos for the night life but I do not suggest you leave your hotel in the daytime. It's a complete different experience. My friends and I had a venture to the beach and we instantly regretted it. The place smells foul and looks dirty, you don't notice at night but the place is very unclean, possibly the after effects of the previous night. The beach is also a mess and in our opinion you certainly couldn't sunbathe down there without the risk of contracting some sort of disease. A lot of the hotels look very run down. We were lucky and our hotel was lovely, we stayed at the Olympion Village and can't fault it. If you're staying in Kavos I would highly recommend you stay here. We went half board and so didn't eat out often but I would recommend you try 'The Drunken Squid' It's a great restaurant that serves great food and the portions are huge! It's a bit weird that it's a Chinese AND a Mexican restaurant but Hey! you're in Kavos!
Summary: Great for a girls holiday.
