Whilst these are a sign of a healthy eco-system, you may want to leave the trekking til a dryer day if it does rain as they can spoil the fun. Alternatively, tabacco in water apparantly deters them (wish we knew!!). There is a huge man-made lake in Khao Sok, created by a damn. This is a beautiful place to visit as there is a wild lime-stone karst landscape similar to those in Vietnam I'd seen pictures of. Khao Sok is a little piece of Thai undiscovered (well, fairly compared to the likes of Phuket) paradise. An ancient rainforest down the south of Thailand leading to Phuket and Krabi below. We stayed in Our Jungle Bungalows and whilst these were basic, they gave the authentic feel of sleeping in the jungle with rats, spiders, monkeys all around.
