Newest Review: ... when the tattoo artists, roadside vendors and musicians came out. ~~The Old Town~~ Korcula Old Town is a medieval walled city positioned on an oval-shaped peninsula off the island. With a population of about 3000 inhabitants, it is the most popular part of the island for visitors to stay and is the administrative centre for the area. The town itself is designed in the shape of a fish, with a succession of narrow streets that branch off the spine of the main street like fish bones. This unusual design was used to reduce the effects of wind and gives the whole town a maze-like feel. The rows of side streets run from the coast on both east... more

Premium Review Korcula: The jewel of the Adriatic (1131 words)

Korcula is in the southern region of Croatia on the Adriatic Coast. It is a small island (about 279 km2), and includes several small villages as well as the main attraction - Korcula Old Town. Set in the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, Korcula Old Town is known as little Dubrovnic, because of the similarity in the shape and style of its architecture. We stayed at Luka Korculanska - a small settlement in a large bay situated to the east of Korcula Old Town, in the rather depressing concrete 1960s communist style Hotel Bon Repos. The accommodation, although basic, was enjoyable because of the access it gave us to the old town. Luka Korculanska originates from the ...  Read the complete review

We arrived in Korcula by ferry from Split. When you dock in the habour you pull in beside a mixture of fishing boats and big luxury yachts. We stayed for three nights before leaving by ferry for Dubrovnik. We stayed in an apartment in the old town not far from the main church. The streets all fan out in a slight curve from the main square in order to make the most of the wind which acts as a natural air conditioning unit. We had booked our apartment in advance. There is a great old town to explore. It is meant to be the birth place of Marco Polo and you can visit his house. One of the entertainment highlights is the traditional sword dance that is performed ...  Read the complete review

I first went to Korcula about 4 years ago with my husband. My son had been left home a year, hitchhiking around the world and we hadn't seen him for 12 months. We wanted to meet up somewhere and he suggested Montenegro. I tried to find a cheap package to Montenegro but they were far too expensive so I chose Korcula instead. We booked a week at the Park Hotel with flight's included. This was with Monarch airlines. The flight was about 3 hours or a bit more and it was very noisy - music rambling away and people up and down all the time. We certainly didn't sit back and relax!! We were both a bit trepidatious (is there such a word) about this trip as we didn't ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Polo - not just a mint (505 words)

I've been to Korcula twice, both times in the summer of 2004, my parents have been back several times since. Whilst the Istrian Isles are pre-dominately visited by Germans, Austrians and Dutch, it seems that the Dalmatian ones are more popular with the Brits, Hungarians, Czechs, Poles, Italians and Croatians themselves. Korcula is a fine looking island about 50km long and only 1km away from the Peljesac peninsula. Originally inhabited by Greeks who called it Black Corfu, it was then Slavs and Venetians who took their place it then changed hands so many times that it's complicated to keep hold of (Serbs, Venetians, Hungarians, Austrians, French, Montenegrins ...  Read the complete review
