Romantic and amazing seafood! (La Rochelle, France)

Advantages: gorgeous, good food

Disadvantages: some bits a little poor quality but keep your eyes peeled

La Rochelle is a beautiful town on the West of France which has an airport frequented by Easyjet and some other low cost airlines. The town itself is famous for being a fishing port where French people typically take holiday for the sights, the seafood and the beaches. I have to agree that I can understand why- I am in fact suprised more english dont go there, in the whole time we only heard a very small minority of english accents (bring your phrasebook, not all the locals speak any english!)! The port is lit up and in the picture and around the entire inside of the port is a promonade with markets/entertainment/street acts and then a full row of restaurants which also drifts slightly into the streets behind. The restaurants looked of varying quality, towards the right of the port building was the well established seafood restaurants - Andres is in fact the best seafood i think i have eaten (dont go here without trying) whereas some of the others were a bit touristy. Take a wander, everywhere has masses of outside seating so just wander to find somewhere you like! Parking is ok as long as you dont mind walking five/ten mins and the prices were about Euro20 for a three course set meal, Euro35 for a three course off the set with wine.
