Lake Louise (Canada) Reviews

Newest Review: ... we weren't disappointed, at the side of the road, we saw a black bear eating some food. What a sight! It was amazing how close they were to you, we of course did not get out of the car and only stopped for less than a minute, but it was obviously cheesed off with us and the other car that had stopped and quickly scampered back into the bushes. Pleased with our wildlife spot, we headed up to Lake Louise before the crowds and arrived at 8.15am - too early for the sun to be making it the beautiful colour it is so famous for - bear this in mind if you want to see the fantastic colour. We didn't mind though as we knew we would be back later, I... more

This review for Lake Louise is part of our longer trip through the Canadian Rockies. Find out first three days of itinerary in Banff here: http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/ski-resorts-international/banff/1614858/ This is a one day itinerary for Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Emerald Lake, Yoho Nat. Park, Canadian Rockies **Getting to Lake Louise** From Calgary to Lake Louise takes approximately 2.5 hours on a really good, clear road, similar to a motorway with several lanes. We drove from Banff up to Lake Louise and drove up Highway 1a, a quieter side road than Highway 1, which has a much better chance of seeing wildlife. We ... Read the complete review

The attractions of Lake Louise are obvious - a most beautiful scene and Kodak film's dream. Both from the Chateau looking towards the Victoria Glacier, and in my opinion from the hiking trails skirting the lake looking towards the Chateau (my Sister recently described the Chateau as a blot on the landscape which I think is pretty unfair). The Chateau has become part of the attraction here, and you could argue without it, few would have had the opportunity to witnes this natural wonder. As I mention in my review of Banff National Park, the main criticism of this particular lake is it's popularity - it is always so busy with tourists - c'est la vie. On our . Read the complete review

I've visited Lake Louise twice - once in the sun and once in the rain, and both times the natural beauty of the place took my breath away. The Lake itself is wide and deep, and the Rockies surrounding it provide a stunning background with snow on the highest peaks all year round. If you are taking a tour of the Rockies you must not miss this extraordinarily peaceful natural wonder. On the practical side, there is a visitors centre and some nice little souvenir shops, but thats not really what you're going for, is it?! I would recommend a trip to the Canadian Rockies to anyone looking for an exciting holiday that is a bit different from the usual. There ... Read the complete review

This jewel of a Lake was discovered in 1883 by Tom Wilson who found the lake so moving that he named it "Emerald Lake" because of the magnificent colour of the water. Later when the Geographical Board of Canada heard about it, they named it Lake Louise after Queen Victoria's daughter. Certainly the lake is most beautiful in summer, but in winter when it is frozen over little of its beauty can be seen. It is frozen over and it just appears as an expanse of white with the mountains all around but at these times there is the added attraction of the skiing. In summer it is very different, although the Lake does not thaw until May. Even in the height of summer .. Read the complete review

A weeks skiing in Lake Louise, my best holiday ever! Lake Louise is set within the lovely rockie mountain range - and it really is beautiful, the scenary is simply breathtaking. Lake Louise itself is very small, just a couple of hotels, and a few shops - we ate out each night at a differant restraunt, the food is very similar (Burgers, Chicken etc) but very very nice. Apparently it is quite an expensive area, but you still pay less than you would over here in the UK. The people are extreamly friendly, and always stop for a chat and to ask how you are/what you`ve been doing. The Skiing itself is first class, as is most of that area - the snow season lasts ...
