The normal day to day Cyprus (Larnaka)

Advantages: Not so many tourists

Disadvantages: A bit industrial

We went to Larnaka to visit friends who live there. We have been to several other resports in Cyprus and I found Larnaka the least touristy place. In many ways it is a normal town which just happens to be by the sea. It has a financial and industrial area and is really quite built up rather than being picturesque at all.

Most of the Brits there have their own apartments or live there rather than being on holiday there for just a week or so.

What it does have though are some very good value and good quality restaurants which are geared up for serving locals rather than holiday makers. I think because of this you can avoid the tourist mark ups and they have to produce good, fresh food to keep their local cliental all year round.

If you are staying in Larnaka I would suggest you do hire a car so you can get out and about seeing other areas of the island as you can really see the sites of Larnaka in just a days walk around the town. The best of the restuarants also tended to be a bit off the main track.

Summary: OK but there are other nicer places to stay in Cyprus
