I visited the Maldives in March 2001, more specifically the "Lily Beach Resort" on the Ari Atoll. It took half an hour to get to by sea-plane from the capital Male - an amazing experience in itself. Lily Beach is a tiny island and has about 100 "standard" rooms and approx. 12 water bungalows, but they are well concealed amongst the vegetation! It also has a dining area, reception, pool, pool bar, 2 jetties and a diving school. The best thing about Lily Beach for me was the ease of access to the coral reef - literally under your nose!!
