Absolute paradise! (Lily Beach Resort)

I visited the Maldives in March 2001, more specifically the "Lily Beach Resort" on the Ari Atoll. It took half an hour to get to by sea-plane from the capital Male - an amazing experience in itself.

Lily Beach is a tiny island and has about 100 "standard" rooms and approx. 12 water bungalows, but they are well concealed amongst the vegetation! It also has a dining area, reception, pool, pool bar, 2 jetties and a diving school.

The best thing about Lily Beach for me was the ease of access to the coral reef - literally under your nose!! The fish and creatures that I saw were absoulutely amazing - a rainbow of colours. Every night at 9pm the stingrays were fed and apart form the 5 - 15 rays that fed, sharks and eels came along too. I also spied a lobster and a turtle. Lily Beach has an excellent scuba diving school.

The accomodation is basic, but comfortable, and the air conditioning works well. I had a water bungalow which jutted out slightly over the sea - again excellent for snorkelling. All rooms had outdoor bathrooms, hi-fi, air.con, fridge, and seconds away from the clear blue sea.

Lily Beach is run on an all-inclusive basis - and the choice of food and drink is excellent. There is also a wide choice of activities, such as visitng a nearby inhabited island, snorkelling safaris, and night fishing - which I highly recommend (I caught a barracuda for my tea!) You can also play snooker, tennis, table-tennis, carron, read a book from their selection, borrow music CDs, and watch satellite TV.

The staff are very friendly and professional. Always smart and presentable, and only too happy to make sure your stay is a memorable one. I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday - absolute paradise!
