ICELAND IN MALAGA!!!!! (Malaga in general)

Advantages: Lots to do and see with a bit of England thrown in as well!

Last year I was lucky enough to fly over to Malaga to visit my son , who had moved out to Spain with his girlfriend a few months earlier. I hadn't been to this part of Spain before so it was all new to me. He had rented out an apartment which overlooked the 9th hole of a gold course and had wonderful huge mountains in the background. With it's own swimming pool what more could you want!

The weather in Malaga is usually very good with the odd rainfall only every now and then. We went at the end of February and it was hot enough to just wear shorts, vests and flipflops all day. Once we did see it get very dark and thought well that's the end of a lovely day, but over there it just pours for about 20 minutes then it is back to glorious sunshine again with the freshness in the air from the rain!

While walking along the front you will find a Macdonalds which is great to sit outside and have a McFlurry (it was lion bar mcflurry then!) on walking further along and crossing over to the other side of the road by the overhead iron bridge, there is a cornish pasty shop called the Cornish Pride, which we did try on another day which was lovely!

There is a cable car that goes along the front which looks really great, but it does go very very high 769metres above sea level high and takes about 15 minutes. I didn't go on it as no one else would go on it and I sure wasn't going to get on it by myself. I wish i had now I'm back home!!

On walking back to the Riveria Del Sol we popped into one of the local bars which we frequented everyday be it for their gorgeous breakfast of Tortilla (this was like an omlette that had potato and onion in and was very large and thick) they would give you pieces to try while you where having your drinks.So we ended up having it for breakfast.. this is much different from the Mexican Tortillo which is made from flatbread

This bar was called George's Bar and was just wonderful, it had only one little balcony area that overlooked the street, but you could see the sea ahead as well. We were lucky as we always seemed to be able to get this seat!

Inside the front was completely made of glass windows with big canopys to keep the sun out.There were round glass topped tables with wicker cushioned chairs where you could sit and watch the world pass by!!

Sometimes it would have old 70's or 80's music playing quitely in the background , but in the evening it would have Spanish music playing which was great. The waiter and waitresses were very friendly and polite amd very helpful if we needed to know something as they spoke some English. The decor was very spanishy with its tiled floors and fishing nets hanging across the ceilings.

If you drove further down the road for a couple of miles along the sea front which is fantastic, you will come to a shopping area known as Miramar, which made me do a double look as it had an Iceland in there. We were going to pick up some bits for the apartment so we popped in. Well I couldn't believe my eyes as when I walked into the shop
I could have been inside of the one that I go in back at home, I had to step back outside to make sure I wasn't dreaming and was really in Spain still !!!
The layout was exactly the same as any of the other Icelands that I have ever been in really freaky!!

Going in the other direction going towards Marbella you will head for Porta Banus the most wonderful place ever ( if you are a millionaire!!) The boats that are there are out of this world and the air is filled with the smell of money. The shops are top designer and boy do they look down their snotty noses at you if you dare to enter wearing Primark clothes or shoes!!!!

We went on to have something to eat at TGI's which was very nice, although when they asked me how I would like my burger done I was a bit thrown ( Macdonalds have never asked me this!). When I said medium rare I really did not think about it coming back to me a bit on the bloody side, which I couldn't eat!

My mistake I forgot it was a burger and thought for a minute I was ordering a steak!!!

So all in all my stay in Malaga was fantastic but my son has now moved back to Britain and so I have got to start looking for somewhere else to go for a short break!!

So I will give Malaga a big 5 star rating as I loved it there!

Summary: A lovely place to visit especially out of season like I did!!
